Our trip to Tavistock Trout Fishery was blessed by good weather - always a good sign - and started out well. First cast I caught a 5lbs 4 ozs trout so looked forward to a really good day for all the children. After that initial success, however, the trout decided to play hard to get. Not that they were not biting - they were - but the children's lack of experience meant that not many bites were converted into hookups.
Quay Stores, Torquay, generously donated a rod and reel as a prize in a special event that Baywater Anglers staged for Highweek Community Primary and Nursery School, Newton Abbot.

A number of children from the school, most of whom had never been trout fishing before, were taken to Tavistock Trout Fishery on a beautiful Summer's day.
Having watched the children's efforts, she very kindly grabbed Bill, one of her helpers, and together they caught and stocked some fine trout into the children's pool.
By the time we got to the pond, the trout had settled and were ready for a quick munch. On went a selection of flies, including green minkies and white boobies, and then the children were in amongst the fish.
As you can tell from the photograph, the trout were in typically fine form for Tavistock and fought all the way to the net!

Lucianna won the fine rod and reel donated by Quay Stores - our thanks again for that - but Rebecca and Ellie were not far behind!
