This fly is a large game pattern for predatory brown and rainbow trout. In different colours it also does well for sea fish such as mackerel though you may want to investigate using different materials such as Orvis superhair or goat hair for a slightly different motion. You would also need to epoxy the head for protection, especially for the vulnerable eyes!

3. Tie on a piece of bucktail, goat hair, Orvis superhair or similar. Point it up past the eye rather than the usual way round.

4. Tie on a bunch of white bucktail for the underbody, pointing the hairs in the same direction.

5. Fold the bucktail back, wrapping the thread around in a collar to make a head.

6. Decorate the head with two decal eyes, which you will need to glue on securely. Alternatively you might epoxy the head with a two part resin to fix them in position. If you do, then a fly rotator will help the resin to dry in an even coat rather than sag in an unsightly manner.

7. A variation that you might like to experiment with, at stage 4, is to tie on some Krystal flash facing the usual way down the shank. When you fold the other materials over this is then secured in the right position for the lateral line of the fish.
