Start by sliding on a bead then catch the thread halfway down the shank to make a neat base layer.
This fly is a dedicated trout fishing fly, being tied on a long shank hook in around sizes 8 - 12. You can fish it with a steady retrieve, a slow retrieve or even strip it back fairly quickly to try and induce a take. Truth to tell, I'm not sure what it is supposed to imitate but it can turn a blank day into a good one when the conditions are right!
Catch in some black or brightly coloured marabou by the bend.
Tie on a few pieces of krystal flash to add a little sparkle to the fly.
Add some more marabou - the same colour as before - above the strands of krystal flash.
Tie in some Fritz and use it to make a body, keeping the top half of the shank free.
Add some coloured tinsel - or some fluorescent floss - above the gold bead to make an attractive trigger for the trout to home in on.
