Start by trapping the thread, winding it back on itself and all the way down to the bend to make a nice, even base layer.

This fly is a dedicated sea fishing fly, being tied on a stainless steel hook in around size 2. You can fish it with a steady retrieve, a slow retrieve or strip it back fairly quickly to give the impression of a small baitfish.

Tie off the fly and varnish then add a hokai head. Glue it down if you want to make the fly last a little longer.
