Over the next few months, we will be using these pages to build up tips and advice on fly tying patterns and fly fishing in the sea. It's great fun and, if you haven't already tried it, I would strongly recommend it. It adds a whole new dimension to sea fishing!

Devon Community Foundation for its generous grant of just over £3,500. This has enabled us to buy some excellent fly tying tools and materials - not to mention some great rods and reels - for the young people in our club and at Highweek Community Primary & Nursery School to use.

As a result of the grant we have started a fly tying club at Highweek - which has started extremely well - and will be holding club and Highweek events where both sets of young people can join in. These will include casting sessions with an APGAI professional instructor and trips that will see us fishing on both stillwaters and the sea. The rods that we have bought - Sharpes Gordon rods, voted Best in Test by Trout Fisherman magazine - are matched up to fly lines that will not only provide us with tremendous sporting opportunities but will also, hopefully, enable us to achieve our aim of cultivating a love of fishing in the younger generation. Certainly they are absolutely superb outfits and I am grateful to Devon Community Foundation for allowing us to start the young people off with such high quality gear. It is very much appreciated.

Our first trip, after tuition by an APGAI instructor, was to Hatchlands Trout Fishery in Dartington. Unfortunately the skies opened on us for the whole evening! Despite that the children still managed to enjoy themselves.
